Indonesia legalises development of conserved forests

Indonesia’s government has passed a decree legalising the conversion of protected and conservation forest areas for business purposes, the Jakarta Post has reported.

The new regulation states that “conservation forest areas could also be changed into… production forest”. Greenpeace Indonesia had previously warned against the new regulation, saying it would further accelerate the destruction of Indonesia’s forests.
